On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2021Turkish Stones has prepared a wonderful experience for the exhibition of Materialized at Spazio Gamma: let us introduce you to The Turkish Stone Library!

Turkish Stones promoted by Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association (IMIB), a non-profit association that oversees export activities in the Turkish mining sector since 1976.

Turkey, situated on the Alpine Belt, where the world’s richest marble deposits are found, is among the world’s oldest natural stone producers. In the different regions of Turkey, hundreds of different colors, textures and patterns of natural stones can be found.

Thanks to its selection of natural stones, the Turkish Stones Library brings the rich history of these Turkish raw materials into contemporary design. The goal is to present new possibilities in architecture and design for the innovative application of these timeless materials. More than 60 different stone types and colors of natural stones including marble, travertine, limestone and onyx were presented. The exhibition was an occasion for designers (and the public in general) to see and touch the natural stone cubes of the Turkish Stone Library, discovering and understanding the rich possibilities of designs in natural stone from Turkey thanks to the library.

Moreover, the Istanbul based design studio Emedya Design led by designer Gokhan Karakus presented “remixes” of important designs in a physical “timeline of the history of stone architecture” from the geography of Turkey as postmodern representations of these culturally important works of global heritage.

In addition a special event occurred on the 6th of September, at Spazio Gamma!

A party followed the talk by Gokhan Karakus on Turkish Stones with music by Dj Dankan and Nastro Azzurro supplied fresh beers.
