Could we get to know Studio 86 Interiors more closely?
How would you describe your office’s foundation process, your design approach, and your brand identity?

Studio86 Interiors was founded in 2013 by Betül Yüceel and Furkan Çöloğlu. We both graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. We established Studio86 in order to approach design as a whole and to be involved in every stage of the design process, from the project itself to the implementation. In our design office, we work in different fields such as project concept development, implementation, furniture design, and artwork consultancy. This versatile working principle increases both our excitement for design and our creativity.

How does your approach to projects take shape?
In projects of different scales, what are the main elements that determine your concept development process, sources of inspiration, and design decisions?

Although these processes may vary depending on the project, our main sources of inspiration remain the same. A detail we come across during a journey, a color palette we see in a work of art, traces we encounter in nature. In fact, life itself is our source of inspiration. On the technical side of design, customer needs and expectations, as well as architectural elements, are among the factors that influence our design decisions.

How do you approach material selection in interior design?
Especially, how do you evaluate the aesthetic and functional values that natural stone adds to your projects?

Sometimes in an accessory, sometimes in a piece of furniture, but we make sure to use natural stone in every project. We enjoy experimenting with natural stone and using it in different areas. Seeing the transformation of such a hard and perhaps cold-looking material as it is processed is truly exciting. Especially in recent years, one of the prominent topics in the global design world has been the use of natural materials in interiors and their impact on users. In this context, the use of natural stone has gained significant importance. We believe that natural stone adds depth to spaces both in terms of texture and color. In addition to elevating the design value of spaces and furniture, it is also a highly valuable material in terms of durability. At the same time, as we mentioned above, the ability to use natural stone in different areas provides flexibility in design and integrity within the space.

What is the place of Turkish natural stones in your projects?
What are your thoughts on the use of local materials, your reasons for preference, and the global position of Turkish natural stones?

Turkish stone holds great value for our design office. For this reason, a travertine stone engraved with our logo welcomes our guests at the entrance of our office. Referring to the travertine wall, travertine stone details also stand out in the reception desk we designed. To continue this design language, we also used the same travertine stone in furniture designs such as storage units and coffee tables. The characteristic texture of travertine stone and its soothing color transitions provided a very special touch to our office design. In addition, our use of local travertine stone and marble in the residential projects we design is increasing day by day. Especially in recent years, we believe that Turkish natural stones have become more prominent worldwide thanks to Turkish interior architecture and design firms producing projects using Turkish natural stones and these projects gaining recognition globally.

What are the plans of Studio 86 Interiors?
What can you share about the new projects you are working on, the collaborations you aim for, and the point your brand wants to reach in the future?

For a while now, we have mainly been designing residential projects. In addition to this, we recently started working on a store and café project. The newest development for us is product design. We are currently preparing a limited collection featuring natural stone and wooden details. We closely follow the developments and innovations in the sector. In line with this, we are also working on various long-term plans regarding new projects and collaborations.
