Toru Flour Administrative Building, designed by D211 Architecture, provides users with a comfortable, functional, and socially engaging working environment through its spacious and efficient layout. The building asserts its presence in the surroundings with the yellow metal cladding used on its façade.
Located in the Bandirma district of Balıkesir, the building has become a recognizable part of the city’s memory with its distinctive silhouette. Upon entering the building, which features complex circulation in contrast to the single-storey characteristics typical for its users, visitors are welcomed in the conference hall. Since the parcel lacks green areas—intentionally to protect the grain warehouses from rodents and other pests—the green courtyards integrated within the building mass allow both the structure and its users to breathe.
The building’s footprint was carefully defined, taking into account the dense surrounding silos and truck traffic. The registration area was determined to provide sufficient maneuvering space for vehicles, ensuring that existing circulation routes remain unobstructed.
To respond to water pressure challenges in the surrounding area, the building’s substructure was elevated. The seating areas of the conference hall were leveled and arranged, while the design of the closed car park ramp was integrated beneath the seating arrangement. In planning the building’s horizontal interior layout, the laboratory was centrally located to maintain a stable temperature, and mechanical areas were efficiently organized.
Privacy is maintained through enclosed offices, while semi-open offices create intimate and warm spaces. The building’s façade height was carefully considered to control interior daylight and atmosphere.
Every detail of the Toru Flour Administrative Building, both interior and exterior, has been designed to create an integrated spatial experience, responding to the user profile and harmonizing with the existing extensive structures.
