About Project

“Arazi” is a rural settlement project located on the slopes of Bademli Village, west of Assos, in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale. The project is designed as a multi-functional complex centered around the idea of communal living, situated on land jointly owned by five high school friends. It consists of a hotel building, a recording studio, bungalows, a camping area, and an event space, all integrated with nature.

In the settlement decisions, guided by the site’s topography and existing vegetation, three gently sloped and sparsely vegetated zones were defined, and a main axis connecting these zones and the main entrance was established. The first zone, located near the entrance, is allocated to the hotel building. At the end of the axis lies the event space, oriented toward the sea view, while the recording studio, positioned in between, also functions as a connector of public areas. The third and lowest zone, the camping area, is organized around a central firepit and connected to the main axis via stairways.

The hotel building is designed to accommodate both individual and collective uses. It consists of a stone/concrete ground floor embedded in the topography and a first floor with a wooden structure. The ground floor includes shared living spaces, an open kitchen, and service units; while the upper floor, accessible from the outside, houses six rooms each with a mezzanine and a balcony, offering independent use. The pool is located beside the hotel, facing the view; the shading elements in both this area and on the residential terraces are constructed with steel structures and reed coverings.

The bungalows are positioned along the stair path that connects the campsite to the main axis, without harming the trees and maximizing the sea view. These units, placed perpendicular to the slope, are designed as elevated wooden structures on steel stilts anchored into concrete foundations.

“Arazi” embraces a sustainable design approach that combines local construction techniques and materials (stone, wood, reed) with contemporary building technologies (steel, concrete, modern MEP systems), creating a project that belongs to its geography.
